Lifeline is a U.S Government program that provides a free cell phone and minutes to low income and unemployed people. The service has been around for a while and has been renewed under the Obama administration. The service sometimes is criticized as being the Obama phone when in fact the program was started during the Reagan administration with landline phones.

Lifeline is available through many different providers with the most popular being the Mexican owned Safelink. A full list of Lifeline providers are at the bottom of the page. Depending on which state you reside in depends on which service you qualify for.

The goal of the Lifeline program is to improve the lives of our poor, homeless and senior citizens that are unable to sustain another phone service through a lack of income.

To qualify for the lifeline program you simple follow the steps to prove your situation through social security and other means that test your eligibility.

The phones that are offered through the Lineline programs are very basic, but get the job done. There are some examples of the phones that are offered on the left.
